Alas, it seems that the good weather has come and gone, and with it some of the SS17 trends. So, for this smart-casual look, I decided to be forward thinking and dip into one of the upcoming AW17 trends: androgynous blazers.
Blazers are one of the easiest and quickest ways to instantly smarten up an outfit, as well as add another layer for warmth in the cooling weather, making them a perfect transitional piece!
I love this checked blazer from Zara: it balances a masculine and feminine feel quite well. The print is more traditionally masculine and gives the blazer a smart feel as personally, it reminds me of the types of suits that may have been worn in Wall street in the 1920's or so. The longer length and double buttons are also a shout to a more masculine blazer style, but the padded shoulders make it more feminine and reminiscent of the 80's power suit. The detail on the buttons make the blazer seem more expensive and give an 'old english' vibe.
To keep it casual, I paired the blazer with this white slogan tee (details in previous post) and some high waisted light-wash jeans to keep the look more summery than autumnal. To toughen it up I added the chunky chain choker and necklace, because I didn't want to be overly formal. Lastly, I added some failsafe white mules, to which my mum responded 'Aren't your feet going to get wet?'; whilst this was partially true, it completed the look so I rolled with them.
Be prepared to see this blazer feature a LOT more in the coming months as it's the PERFECT AW17 piece!
